Bio­‐based Polymers

Furan-based monomers made from 5‐HMF are key components in new high-performance biopolymers such as polyesters, polyurethanes and polyamides. Furandicarboxylic acid (FDCA) and its dimethyl ester (FDME) are two such promising monomers, which can be processed into polyethylene furanoate (PEF) and other polyesters or polycarbonates.
